Dave Hughes DVD

While I'm not that fond of Dave Hughes, I know lots of people out there are. Whether it's his 'agro' episodes, his voice or his everyman appeal, it's up to you. Check out his comic talent in his new DVD:

Dave Hughes DVD

[From the press release]
Dave Hughes is perhaps one of the most important and significant talents to have emerged from the Australian comedy scene in the last ten years. A natural and un- mistakably Australian comic, Dave’s laconic style thinly disguises one of the fastest comic minds this country has ever seen.

It was at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 1999 that Hughesy was forced to move from a tiny upstairs city bar into a 300-seat room at the Melbourne Town Hall. Word had started to spread about this impossibly laid back guy from Warrnambool.

Since 1999, the word has spread even further and Hughesy has become one of the biggest and most loved names in Australian stand up comedy. Honest and imperfect is how Australians like their comedy and Dave Hughes delivers exactly that in spades.

Along with Kate Langbroek, Hughesy makes up Mel- bourne’s Nova 100 breakfast team. He can be seen on Network Ten’s Before the Game during the AFL footy season, and on the highly successful light-entertain- ment program, Rove. And if that’s not enough, he can now also be seen on the new Channel 10 news enter- tainment program The 7PM Project.

His very first DVD, aptly titled Dave Hughes LIVE was released in September 2006 through Liberation Music. It quickly went on to go 7 times platinum.

The most powerful testimony to Dave’s talent is his enduring popularity with audiences. He has over the course of the last five years become one of the highest selling Australian comedy acts in the country. He hit the road in 2009, with his latest solo show offering, Dave Hughes is Handy. And now Liberation Music is proud to release the DVD of that show, Dave Hughes Is Handy. Featuring all brand new material, this new DVD cements Dave’s position at the top of the Australian comedy pantheon.

The DVD features a full length show recorded at the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, along with bonus features including exclusive backstage footage and ‘At Home With The Hugheses’, an intimate and personal look at Dave’s family life in his Melbourne home.

"Hughes has become one of the most appealing, and most powerful, comics around." Sydney Morning Herald
"Dave Hughes is one of the funniest men in a city that has produced many of Australia’s funniest people." Sunday Telegraph, Sydney
"Hughes is skilled, appealing to all and always in control. Excellent." The Age, Melbourne

Dave Hughes Is Handy is released August 21
through Liberation Music

Comedy Bites

On Tuesday I was lucky enough to get tickets to another festival show, showcasing some of the best acts that the festival has to offer. Comedy Bites is an annual event put on by ABC radio 774 in Victoria. Of the 23 acts, the best ones were country music artist Wilson Dixon, Irish comedian Neil Delamer, UK’s Gordon Southern, UK regular Jeff Green (so regular he married a Melbourne girl) and part of the Comedy Zone – Smart Casual.

Get out and see something funny!

Raw Comedy Heats

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is heading out way, with tickets being released for such comedy greats as Dylan Moran, Russell Brand and Rhys Darby (Murray from Flight of the Conchords). Expect more tickets to be released every week!

But of equal importance is the Raw Comedy heats. Raw Comedy is a series of heats that are done across Australia looking for the next comedian you’ve never heard of. So if you’re funny, sign up as there are still places available. Otherwise, head down to a place where the heats are going on, snaffle a few beers and sit down for a laugh.

I’d love to head down, but damn my weekend job! I’ll definitely be at the final in Melbourne on the 18th of April.

From the website
Raw Comedy is on right now!

Heats are taking place at the moment in every capital city, and the regional schedule has been locked away.

Registrations are full in Melbourne and Sydney already, and Adelaide is getting close.

Get onto the Raw website at www.rawcomedy.com.au and find out when the next Raw gig is on, near you.

Check out the website to see when the heats are on! www.rawcomedy.com.au

Cheech and Chong Show in Australia

You may have recalled that last year, Cheech and Chong (who rose to fame on the back of ‘stoner’ films of the 1970s).

Well, true to their word, the pair (looking a little greyer) are touring Australia during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with shows on the 17th and 18th of April.

From ticketmaster
Cheech & Chong are back on the road for the first time in more than 25 years and ready to `Light Up Australia` with their wonderfully wacky humour this April at the Palais Theatre.

Having enjoyed amazing success over the past 25 years with nine hit comedy albums, one Grammy award and eight hit films, their live show is destined to be low-brow comedy at its finest! The show will also feature Chong`s wife Shelby as the opening act.

Tickets go on sale 2nd of February

Fringe Festival - Heath Franklin's Chopper

Heath Franklin's Chopper is a tour de Force. If you haven't sat down with Chopper doing the weather, then you haven't had a great laugh at this great comedian. If you're looking for Aussie comedy, then this is a great example!

As part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival, Franklin will be on until the 11th of October, but dates continue in the rest of Australia till the end of the year.

Check him out now!

[From the website www.laughingstock.com.au]
Every 3 seconds, somebody, somewhere in the world is being a deadshit.

Now, look at the person to the left of you, now the one on the right, chances are one of the people you just looked at is also a deadshit. Now, if you looked right when I asked you to look left…yes, you’re a deadshit too.

After 2007’s record sell-out success, Harden the Fuck Up Australia, Heath Franklin's Chopper (Network 10’s The Ronnie Johns Half Hour) is back, head-butting his way across the country, tackling an issue bigger than world poverty or global warming - eradicating the terminally stupid.

In a world that is designed to protect people from their own stupidity, Chopper is worried that natural selection isn't getting a fair go. Bono, Chris Martin, Bob Geldof - all the songs and all the concerts in the world aren’t going to change the fact, the world has never been a safer place for total deadsh*ts. So, forget Band Aid, Live Aid, Whinge F*ckin’ Whinge Aid - finally there’s a cause we can all get behind, and a celebrity who has the moustache to pull it off.

From the creative mind who gave you cutting off peoples toes for money, headbutting mothers and lots of f-words comes a new show about deadshits and the people who hate them. So, donate today, help Chopper help you ‘Make Deadshits History’.

Together, we can do this.
