As I wrote last week, Mollie Sugden, who played Miss Slocombe from the hit comedy series of the 70s, Are you being served?, passed away at the age of 86. Miss Slocombe was a hilarious character with the double-entendre of her pussy coming up at every opportune moment.
For this reason, I've put in a medley of Miss Slocombe at her best for last week's Funny Bits. Enjoy!
Unless you've been living under a rock, you would have learned that Michael Jackson has passed away today. Like many, I grew up with Michael and loved his music (I'd like to forget about that red jacket purchase when I was 10).
While as a blog about comedy, I can't really put on anything about him directly. I thought I'd put on an example of the devotion and attention he inspired.
Weird Al Yankovic made his career on parodying Michael Jackson's music videos and mannerisms, so for this week's Funny Bits I give you Fat, a parody of Jackson's song Bad.
RIP Michael!
Enjoy the vid.
Ross Noble seems to turn up on Australian media throughout the year. This largely being that he has married a lovely Australian girl and lived in St Andrews outside of Melbourne. This was until his house burned down in the Melbourne fires in Feburary 2009.
He has recently been selling out shows in the UK and has started his ‘Things’ tour in Australia. I’ve seen him a few times live and have loved him and been a bit ‘ho-hum’ about him. I’ll be seeing him on the 27th of June in Melbourne. Let me know what you think.
Enjoy this clip about never putting a blanket on an owl. Hilarious!

Nina Conti was my favourite act from the MICF gala this year, so I thought I'd highlight her skill. I'll definitely be off to get some tickets for this week of previews, make sure you do too!
This was from the gala in 2008.
I thought I’d go a bit old-school for this week’s Funny Bits and put in a clip by the late Dave Allen. For those of you who don’t remember, Dave was an Irish comedian who popular on tv in the 60s, 70s and 90s. He had a laid back style of delivery, often with a glass of scotch in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
Here he’s talking about language, swearing in particular, after getting a public dressing down for saying ‘fucking’ on tv. George Carlin has done something similar, a clip of which can be found here.
Jizz in my pants is the first single from The Lonely Island. TLI are a comedy group composed of composed of Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Andy Samberg. The trio are best known for their comedic work for Saturday Night Live. They were also responsible for the comedy film, Hot Rod which came out in 2007. Their first album, Icredibad, debuted in the US in February 2009.
The following clip definitely has a style akin to the Pet Shop Boys and has been seen by over 30 million viewers. Check out the cameo by Justin Timberlake and stay tuned for more from this comedy trio. Let us know what you think!
For this week's Funny Bits I've decided to upload the two parts of Top 10 Comedians in America. This compilation is purely audio, but gives you a taste of some comedians you might not have heard of before. The quality ranges from ok to really good. Let me know what you think.
Part 1
Part 2
The bit of comedy this week for you is Chris Addison. Addison is a man of many talents. He has made a successful career as a stand up, author, and has also won an award for his radio show The ape that got lucky and has done other series for the BBC. He has recently co-starred in a UK sit-com Lab Rats and is expected to be here for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Enjoy this great comedian!
Sorry about the picture quality!
Russell Brand is a UK comedian, a controversial radio DJ (a prank call led to his resignation from BBC in 2008), columnist and now film actor (he was recently in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
This terribly funny man is about to tour Australia, so I've put a clip of him performing at the Secret Policeman's Ball (a show which raises money for Amnesty International).
Check him out and the other hilarious clips on YouTube. Also, you can download his entire log of radioshows at http://www.russellbrandradioshows.zoomshare.com/
Last Saturday I had the fortune of seeing Jerry Lewis doing a show in Melbourne. Jerry Lewis, who is unarguably one of the greatest comedians to grace the film screen. At 82, he put on a great show, talking about his career, life with his friends Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jnr and Frank Sinatra, as well as some clips of his work and a bit of classic comedy on stage.
So this week, I thought I would put a clip that he put on during his show. A clip from The Nutty Professor. Enjoy!
And let me know what other Jerry Lewis bits you loved. It took me a long long time to settle on one when I searched through many Youtube clips!
Mark 'Chopper' Read is Heath Franklin's take on the notorious Australian Mark Chopper Reed. The impression was originally seen on The Ronnie Johns Half-Hour on Channel 10 in Australia.
The impression is based as much on the real-life Reed as Eric Bana's version from the 2000 film Chopper. The sketches from the show typically Read in an incongruous situation, such as reading a story to children or doing the bingo. In this week's Funny Bits we have Read hilariously doing the weather. Enjoy!
Let me know if you have any comedians or funny bits that I should put in this blog. Any suggestions will be appreciated! Click here!
This week I have highlighted the great Adam Hills, comedian and host of Spicks and Specks in Australia. He is often seen to be a 'nice guy' but articles written about him often say that he has quite a subversive side.
In this youtube clip, he is introducing one the comedy galas of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and giving the Aussie accent a serve.
Enjoy!
